Professional Sommelier International Course (10 months)
The advanced formation for a future as Professional Sommelier on an international level
A course that is unique of its kind in Italy to train professionals in the world of wine and other beverages.
For anyone who wishes, the course is a preparation for the ALMA-AIS Sommelier Master, IV Level.
ALMA offers its students an extraordinary training experience: knowledge of territories, wines and typical raw materials, the wisdom of traditions and the most advanced tasting techniques, knowledge of the world of wine and other drinks, in addition to mastery of the regulations on food hygiene.
Objectives
Superior Sommelier Course diploma holders are thoroughly acquainted with Italian and international oenography, tasting and serving techniques, techniques of matching food/wine and typical regional products. Moreover they know the health and safety regulations in force, are able to serve wine and other drinks, and make use of sensory analysis. At the end of the course, the diploma holder is fully qualified to enter the world of work with suitable skills to operate as a sommelier at a restaurant, or as a wine professional in vineyards, wine bars or large retailers.

- Registration is considered complete on sending ALMA, by e-mail, the Registration Form duly filled in and signed together with a copy of the bank transfer showing payment of the registration fee.
- Certificate issued: Sommelier Certificate – on successfully passing the final exam
- International Professional Sommelier (subject to final examination)
- Graduates from Hotel Schools and Institutes
- Restaurant business operators
- Junior Sommeliers with a first experience in the field
- A very good knowledge of Italian and a basic knowledge of English are required
Good knowledge of Italian is indispensable
Specific experience in the sector is not essential.
The course is organised in collaboration with the Italian Association of Sommeliers (AIS).- 3th Edition: 2 october 2012 - 20 february 2013
5 months (21 weeks) including 11 weeks of theory and practice, and 10 weeks of internship
Residential Phase:
Lessons and tastings at ALMA’s headquarters at the Reggia di Colorno, supplemented by educational visits in the territory. 8 hours per day from Monday to Friday.
Professional Internship:
Internship in organisations linked to the world of sommellerie, catering, and wine in general. The internship will be organised bearing in mind the particular educational, training and logistic needs of each individual participant. €4,500 + 21% VAT
1st instalment: €1,000 + 21% VAT on registering
2nd instalment: €2,300 + 21% VAT by the starting date
3rd instalment: Euro 1.200 + 21% VAT within the first 2 months of the courseRecent Hotel School diploma holders are exempt from paying VAT (thus the amount becomes €4,500, to be paid in instalments as specified above).

The fee does not include accommodation for the residential phase.
During the weeks of internship, accommodation will be provided by the host organisation.The school has its own residences (Alma Housing) and arrangements with other residences/hotels both in Colorno and Parma. During the residential period, students must pay for their own accommodation. During the internship, accommodation and some of the meals will be provided by the host organisation.
